You'd think the world here comes screeching to a halt the moment I leave the way people have been acting today.
It's odd to say it, but I'm very much looking forward to long weekend and a few days of.

05:02 pm Thank you, Fred and Verity, for letting us share your tent at the match. It was at least an easier night than the last time we
Ginny, it was a brilliant game. And you know how I usually find Quidditch a bit dull, so that's saying quite a bit.

06:38 pm I've been a bit awful about writing in this journal. I would blame it entirely on my work, but I've found that as the Quidditch World Cup hysteria has been on the rise most of the major causes of headaches that continually post complaints to my department have been very quiet. I would assume that means that most of the rabblerousers are too busy listening to Quidditch every few days to really raise complaints about goblins, elves, werewolves, etc.
Which is a very good thing, considering just how often I want to slap some of those people.
I want to take this opportunity, though, to offer a very large congratulations to Ginny Weasley and Sam Capper. I'm sorry I didn't say so earlier, but I'm thrilled for you, of course.

09:04 am When we were sent these journals with our school letters I mistakenly thought they’d somehow be academically useful. Weren’t professors meant to use them to post assignments, or discussions? Or we were meant to use them to actually write about things that mattered?
Instead there are lunatics and idiots writing and nothing of much substance either way. Yes, it’s sad about the squid – Of course, there’s Voldemort bent on killing us all, but it’s far more important to figure out what the Ministry decided to do to the squid. Some of you are so stupid you actually deserve to be murdered. No, I can’t say that. It’s true, but I can’t write it. And when the squid crisis is over, there’s always the crisis of what to do with a weekend because you can’t think of cleverer ways to get away from your studies, or the crisis of whether or not to get a massage.
Honestly.

10:00 pm Happy Birthday, Luna. I'm sorry I haven't had time to think about a present, so I hope you don't mind that it will need to be a little belated.

10:20 pm With the entrance of Professor Pittiman, it seems that the library has an influx of new biographies. Oddly enough, the biography of Uric the Oddball seems to already be checked out.

I'm looking forward to seeing how our professors are going to be using these journals. I suspect for essays, as I mentioned during the summer, but there are some other possibilities as well. From the Headmistress' comments, I wouldn't be surprised if they asked for a bit more collaborative work.

06:42 pm - 001 - 3 August 1997 Professor Dumbledore deserves a good rest, and I don't think I want to say anything more on that, save that Professor McGonagall will be a wonderful Headmistress.
These are very strange journals, aren't they? I've been testing the charms on them for the last few days. I think they'll be quite handy, but I would caution against using them for anything too private. I'm interested in what the Hogwarts letter didn't say about them, though. It only said that they would be mandatory for the coming term. I suppose we'll be assigned essays that need to be written in them for others to share their opinions on. I'm quite looking forward to that.
